- RESULTS
- All athletes’ activities will be verified, normalized, and localized (see Localization) to the same onsite race producing final finish times used for rankings and scoring.
- Athletes will see their own remote and localized finish times in their accounts immediately after their activities are synced.
- Race rankings will be updated with finish times hidden as participants finish.
- Finish times will be revealed only after the Race Window Close.
- Additional race formats such as Equalized Times, Team/Club Points, Quad Squads, and Best Legs may be offered on a race-specific basis.
- The Commission reserves the right to suspend, omit, and/or remove any results that are or are suspected of being incorrect, corrupted, or fraudulent.
- RACE ACTIVITIES - GENERAL
- All activities must begin, end, and be synced to your account during the Race Window.
- Only the first activity file received during any Race Window matching the discipline and distance/duration will be accepted. Any subsequent files will not be associated with the race.
- Each race segment must be completed and tracked in a single activity file. For example: A 10k run cannot be completed and submitted as a 6k run activity file and a separate 4k run activity file. Be careful to not stop your device until you have completed each discipline. If using multisport mode on your training device, multiple race segments can be included in a single activity file.
- Race segments must be completed in the proper order. i.e. For SBR races, the completion order is swim, then bike, then run.
- If you are competing in an SBR race and your swim activity is not synced prior to the start of your bike, you will automatically be moved from the SBR race to the BR race.
- Activities must be synced immediately after completion. Bike and run activities may be synced at the same time after the run.
- Total elapsed activity times, including all stoppages, will be used for results.
- PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION GROUPS
- All athletes are assigned to one of three Performance Verification “Groups” for each race discipline based on their performance ability equalized for age and gender.
- Swim Group assignment is based on threshold pace per 100yards or meters.
- Bike Group assignment is based on threshold power-to-weight ratio.
- Run Group assignment is based on threshold pace (grade adjusted).
- Each athlete’s Performance Verification Group for each discipline is displayed in the Verification Status area at the top of their race screen in RaceX.
- Each athlete is required to confirm their performance ability for each discipline prior to each race.
- For each discipline, Group 1 is the top (fastest) X%, Group 3 is the bottom (least fast) X%, and Group 2 are those athletes in between. These approximate percentages differ per discipline and are listed in these RemoteRacing Rules in each disciplines respective section. In a highly competitive event, most or all athletes could be in Group 1.
- Performance Verification Requirements may be adjusted and/or waived for athletes according to their Groups. The requirements may include what equipment they can or must use, how results can or must be submitted, and what performance verification protocols they must follow. The faster the Group the more stringent verification requirements are.
- Athletes are required to adhere to all RemoteRacing Rules except as explicitly adjusted per their discipline-specific Groups as enumerated herein.
- Performance Gating
Rather than being disqualified, athletes who submit results that exceed the Performance Gate Limit for which they have been verified will have their results capped as follows:- Results for athletes adhering to Group 1 requirements for a specific discipline will not be Gated regardless of the athletes Group assignment. Eg. If an athlete is assigned to Group 2 but adheres to all Group 1 requirements, her performance results will not be Gated.
- Results for any athlete not adhering to Group 1 requirements will be “Gated” (or capped) at the Group Performance Limit for the fastest group for which the Performance Verification requirements were met. Eg. If an athlete does not use a bike power sensor or does not follow the Bike Group 1 weight verification protocol and completes their bike activity at a performance level faster than their Bike Group 2 Performance Limit, their results will be Gated at their Bike Group 2 Performance Limit. Any athlete close to their performance limit is highly encouraged to adhere to the requirements of a faster group.
- All athletes are assigned to one of three Performance Verification “Groups” for each race discipline based on their performance ability equalized for age and gender.
- SWIM
- All swim activities must include duration and distance.
- All swim activities must be completed in Standard Distance lap pools. Swim activities completed in open water or swim-against-current pools will not be accepted.
- “Standard Distance” lap pools include 25 yards (SCY or short-course yards), 25 meters (SCM or short-course meters), and 50 meters (LCM or long-course meters).
- Only swim activities equal to the specified race distance will be valid. Swim activities will be accepted in either yards or meters depending on pool format (short-course yards, short-course meters, or long-course meters). For example: If the specific race distance is 400 meters, participants may do either 400 meters or 400 yards depending on the dimensions of the pool. Results will be normalized based on the actual distance and number of turns.
- All forward progress must be made under your own power and without aid of any kind including drafting off of another swimmer.
- The use of wetsuits, swimskins, snorkels, fins, gloves, paddles, or any flotation devices is prohibited.
- Swim Performance Verification Groups
The following adjustments and exceptions are related to Section 6: Performance Verification Groups.- Group 1 athletes (approx. top 20%) must submit a single, non-stop recording of the first five minutes of their swim activity providing clear evidence that all rules were followed. The recording must be done using a device that captures the location and a date/time stamp such as a smart phone or tablet. Recordings will be analyzed to verify authenticity, location, and date/time stamp.
- Group 2 athletes have no adjustments or exceptions.
- Group 3 athletes (approx. bottom 30%) are permitted to manually submit their results without an activity file.
- BIKE
- All bike activities must include heartrate data.
- All bike activities must be completed using a bike power sensor and/or GPS device.
- For bike activities with GPS data, only bike activities equal to or slightly greater than the specified race distance will be valid.
- For bike activities with only power data, only activities equal to or slightly greater than the athlete’s predicted bike duration will be valid.
- All propulsion must be generated through the chainset under the athlete’s own power using their legs in a circular movement and without aid of any kind.
- Bike Activities Completed Outdoors
- Outdoor bike activities must be completed using a GPS device.
- Outdoor bike activities must end within 100 meters of their respective start locations and have no net elevation loss. i.e. Activities performed on point-to-point routes will not be accepted.
- Bike Activities Completed using a Bike Power Sensor
- Athletes using bike power sensor (i.e. smart trainers or power meters) must calibrate them prior to competition.
- Athletes using bike power sensor may complete their activity indoors or outdoors.
- Accuracy Adjustment
Bike power sensors with varying levels of accuracy are permitted subject to an “Accuracy Adjustment” being applied which is calculated as the device’s accuracy rating percent minus a standard top-end accuracy rating of one percent. Example: If an athlete’s normalized race power was 200W using a power sensor with an accuracy rating of +/- 3%, the Accuracy Adjustment of 2% (3% minus 1%) would be applied. The 200W result would be reduced by 2% to 196W prior to being applied to the onsite simulation producing the final finish time. An athlete using a power sensor with an accuracy rating of +/- 1% would not have any Accuracy Adjustment (1% - 1% = 0%).
- Bike Performance Verification Groups
The following adjustments and exceptions are related to Section 6: Performance Verification Groups.- Group 1 athletes (approx. top 45%) must use a bike power sensor when completing their bike activity and must use a “known” weight during their weight verification.
- Group 2 athletes are permitted to complete their bike activities with GPS and without a bike power sensor if the activity is complete outdoors.
- Group 3 athletes (approx. bottom 25%) are not required to complete a weight verification and are permitted to manually submit their results without an activity file.
- RUN
- All run activities must include duration, distance, and heartrate data.
- All run activities must be completed outdoors (no treadmills) using a GPS device.
- Only run activities equal to the specified race distance will be valid.
- All run activities must end within 100 meters of their respective start locations and have no net elevation loss. i.e. Activities performed on point-to-point routes will not be accepted.
- All run activities must start no more than 10 minutes after the completion of the bike segment to avoid impacting localized T2 time. (Note: Localization of T2 is based on the T2 Duration.)
- All run activities must start no more than 20 minutes after the completion of the bike segment to be accepted.
- All forward progress must be made under your own power and without aid of any kind.
- Participants must obey all traffic laws while on the running course.
- Run Performance Verification Groups
The following adjustments and exceptions are related to Section 6: Performance Verification Groups.- Group 1 athletes (approx. top 25%) have no adjustments or exceptions..
- Group 2 athletes have no adjustments or exceptions.
- Group 3 athletes (approx. bottom 25%) are permitted to manually submit their results without an activity file.
- TRANSITIONS
- General
SBR (swim, bike, run) races include two transitions: swim-to-bike (aka T1) and bike-to-run (aka T2). For consistency, T2 always refers to the bike-to-run transition even for BR races when there is only one transition between the two segments. T1 may refer to either the swim-to-bike transition for an SBR format race or the run-to-bike transition for an RBR format race. - Swim-to-Bike Transition (T1)
Due to inconsistent pool accessibility and proximity to adequate bike and run routes for many participants, athletes may complete their swim at any time during the Race Window prior to starting their bike or run. Athletes’ remote T1 times are not tracked. - Bike-to-Run Transition (T2)
- Athletes have up to the fixed “T2 Duration” of 10 minutes after completing their bike to start their run. Spending less than the fixed T2 Duration will not improve their localized T2 time or finish time in any way.
- Athletes spending more than the T2 Duration between the completion of their bike and the start of their run will have the additional time added to their localized T2 time. (i.e. 12 minutes in T2 would add 2 minutes to the localized T2 time.) If more than 20 minutes is taken for T2, then the run activity will not be accepted.
- General
- FOUL PLAY
- There is zero tolerance for foul play. Any athlete suspected of foul play will be disqualified and may be banned from all future participation.
- All athletes have the obligation to participate in a manner that is beyond suspicion. This includes but is not limited to the following:
- Ensuring their weight verification video gives clear visibility to their weight, the scale’s accuracy, and their verification process. Athletes may enlist a partner to record the video acting as a witness and giving more visibility to the athlete, the scale, and the surroundings.
- Ensuring their training apps are connected immediately during account setup and not disconnected until at least four weeks after any event they participate in.
- Ensuring that their training activities are syncing with their RaceX account and that these activities are of sufficient intensity and duration to prove their race day performance potential.
